A clan of young boys from the NorthTowns thought it would be a good idea to get together, combine their skills, and remake classics like Phantom of the Opera into Death Metal must haves. They were right. Sitting on a sailboat this past fourth of July weekend, what better to blast from the stereo than hipper versions of the songs all the old folks love? Sure, plenty of people thought we were number one, a few even started screaming along, I just wanted to some time to relax and get lost in a dark and twisted dream.
Dan, Covey, Nate and Chris make up Pyramidium, this metal band based in Lockport. Their musical base seems to stem from years of school field trips and talent shows, but slowly and surely, they are bringing their individual influences to the table and writing their own tunes, each more complicated than the last. Not entirely sure where the female vocalist fits in, or if she’s a regular, but it works to tone down their melodic onslaught just enough to make their aunt’s heads bop. She has that choir voice that’s typically hard to place outside of the church or a theater so kudos to her for thinking outside of the black box.
With barely a year of experience under their belts, Pyramidium stepped into the studio and recorded their first album, Alternate Reality Machine, with Doug Griffith of “Calamity From The Skies” and their second is due out later this year.
The background story on their name, in case you thought the boys slapped two good looking words together: 5000 years ago an evil was born. Drawn into the dark embers of a forgotten wood, the ancient snake known only as “Pyramidium” slithered its way into an unknowing dimension. With its poison venom the souls of men were harvested from their very bodies, and the sky fell black. Using the foretold Alternate Reality Machine, five necromancers brought this evil into the world.
