COLUMBUS: Happy Birthday Titonton Duvante
With a musical history spanning back to the early 90’s, as co-creator of the seminal techno band Body Release (alongside Todd Sines, Charles Noel and Mike Szewczyk), and on through a multifaceted career as a composer, recording artist, producer, remixer, record label owner and DJ, Titonton Duvante continues to evolve creatively. As a DJ known for blurring the boundaries of electronic music genres, Titonton deconstructs, blends and rebuilds beats with his special brand of funky turntablism. He’s brought his extraordinary style to nightclubs around the world: from Detroit and San Francisco to Berlin, London, Paris, Warsaw, Copenhagen, Sao Paulo, San Juan, Tokyo and beyond. Titonton has released an arsenal of music on labels such as Palette, Environ, 7th City, Planet E, Sonar Kollektiv, 2000 Black and Bitasweet to name a few, in addition to his own label, Residual Recordings. He’s done collaborative work with contemporaries such as John Tejada, Fabrice Lig and Morgan Geist. Titonton’s remarkable reputation has earned him an entry in Tim Barr’s book, A Rough Guide to Techno, as well as a mention in Dan Sicko’s book, Techno Rebels. Recently moving to New York City from his native Columbus, Ohio, Titonton has been working in the studio, with forthcoming releases on Residual, Frankie,7th City, Corner,Planet Harrier, Manuscript, Open Concept and Boogizm Recordings.

BUFFALO: Monsters of Nature and Design lll
Two (unexpected) Buffalo kids collaborate to host a performance: Monsters of Nature and Design III. Big Orbit’s Craig Smith and Colin Beatty with Gary Nickard, Reinhard Reitzenstein and the Vores perform on the front lawn of the Burchfield Penney Art Center.
MND lll has been scheduled to coincide with the closing of Craig Smith’s exhibition, Training Manual for Relational Art, which uses photographs as a comprehensive ‘demonstration’ image. The audience is afforded the opportunity to witness and engage in one of these original events that will surely later manifest as document. For this performance the artists will continue their research into the process, aesthetics, and ethics of human-to-human interactivity, specifically as it relates to sport. Performing a 28 minute series of choreographed circuits around the BPAC with chalk liners, while taking scripted and improvised instruction/comments from their collaborators Nickard and Reitzenstein (all backed by a new composed orchestral work by the Vores), Smith and Beatty will continue their long practice of physical, often humorous, performance works.
Following the performance the artists will pose for photographs with audience members. This is a bit of a tongue-in-cheek take on ‘autograph days’ or ‘talking head’ speaking engagements. At this time the performers can answer questions from the audience or feedback to any responses they may have.

PHILLY: Adventures in the Land of Smoke and Mirrors
A collaboration between Kim Harty, Rika Hawes, and Charlotte Potter will happen under the name Three Headed tonight at FluxSpace. The event is an experimental journey that explores the subversive nature of spectacle, pleasure and entertainment. Modeled after the structure of the carnival, it evokes such canons as the sideshow, burlesque theatre, and the circus.
Adventures in the Land of Smoke and Mirrors also identifies with the Situationalist’s goal of setting up temporary environments towards the fulfillment of primitive human desires. Three Headed uses different optical, mechanical, and technological phenomena to inspire a viewer’s pleasure. “The goal of the show,” says Harty, “is fabrication of spectacular representations which become interchangeable with reality.” Evolving from Foucault’s concept of the Heterotopias, the artists create environments to transport the viewer to spaces that are both real and illusory, as well as mysterious and otherworldly.
Adventures in the Land of Smoke and Mirrors is your chance to take a ride on the Love Boat, travel the Mirror Maze, check out the Peep Show, test your skills in the Shooting Gallery, drink from the Fountain of Youth, view the Cabinet of Curiosities, and see the 3 headed adventurers in action!
