Philly: The Worlds Greatest Trunk Show
The City Paper is hosting the Worlds Greatest Trunk Show, a one-day DIY indie craft and arts show in Philadelphia along with over 100 artists. The idea behind this coming together is to spend locally, encourage local small business and support the economy in a time when it so desperately needs the feedback. While the City Paper is only one of more than 70 alternative reads nationwide that participate in a buy local campaign, they are the only one to create a tangible method for doing so through this anti-mall. “Our cost outlay has been minimal — mostly table rental — and we charged $100 per booth. So, we’re doing something great for the small local businesses, our readers and we’re making a little money in the process,” stated associate publisher Roxanne Cooper in a recent interview. “There’s no charge whatsoever to shop. And the bar will be open all day.”
Don’t try to find info online, there isn’t any, just head down to meet some local flavor like Strawberry Luna, Velvet Lily, Lollibomb Beauty and Spot-On (Penelope Rakov).

I thought maybe Merrill Nisker was going to soft in her old age – this month’s release I Feel Cream comes without raunchy song titles or a sequined bush cover photo. I felt a little short changed by the now 40 year old, but one listen and I knew this cougar still had her street cred. With a theme song like “Mommy Complex”, Merrill maintains her ability to tease and please her audience; we recommend adding the album to the jukebox at your small town dive bar. Or, go see Peaches at TLA tonight with your best friend’s mom.
