How cool are our friends to the West? Columbus is hosting another awesome event that makes me think we should kidnap some of their residents and bring them to Buffalo.
Independents’ Day is coming together of creative people with active people to create super people who showcase their talents on the streets of the city on September 19th at noon. Come witness their public explosion of creative spirit.
We call it spirit too.

Chalk on the Walk
When festivals collide. The organizers of Via Colori crash into I.D.2009 with gusto. Look for artists creating large scale chalk masterpieces throughout the day.
Live Painting
The people from Frankinlinton Arts District show once again who the boss of murals is in town. Urban Scrawl packs its bags and heads downtown once again!
Gallery Style
Come down to the Modern Finance Building at the corner of Gay and High for a unique exhibition organized by the Couchfire Collective.
Find it at the Flea Market
Downtown Residents Association is taking their garage sale to the street for a flea market extravaganza. Come find what condo owners don’t have room for.
Urban Street Market
Over 200 booths line Gay Street, Lynn Alley, and Pearl Alley and feature Columbus artists, organizations, and businesses. Check back soon to see a full list of registered vendors.
Music and Performances
Several music stages and plus a handful of alternative venues feature Columbus’ best musicians and performers, organized by the Columbus Music Co-op, Central City Recording, and Outer Sounds. Check back for a full schedule of performers soon.
Taste the Best
Come taste what local restaurants have to offer. Dine Originals will be at the event showing off their local flavor. Tip Top, Deep Wood, Banana Bean, G Micheal’s, Elevator, Pistachio Vera, Due Amici, Cotters, Barcelona and Katzinger’s, to name a few. Other vendors will be there as well, serving up their culinary creations.
Dunk a Roller Girl and Watch ‘em Race
Stop by and take your best shot at dunking members of the Ohio Roller Girls. Don’t worry, they won’t skate after you once the tank is gone. After the dunking fun, catch zany races between your favorite roller derby league members!
Skylab and The Shelf
The kids on the block are the core of what this is all about. All day stop by 57 Gay St to see the performances and art that grow right from the the neighborhood.
