The Cowbrow Collective is Columbus’ own group of lowbrow artists who work to curate a gallery show each month in the city, chalk full of accessible and affordable art. The community centric group was founded by local artist Dan Gerdeman who came with years of teaching and gallery experience, and some skills for wrangling children and artists. “CowBrow [is] an homage to the town inhabited by the participating artists. Illustrated in loving fashion by 12 artists, from ages 18 to forty-something, who live in Columbus or have made it their home. Both self-taught and educated in higher learning institutions these artists are influenced by comic books, sci-fi, pop culture, video games, graffiti, and the flavor of the moment. The work straddles both sweet and sour, accessible and in your face,” as stated on their website.

This month, the collective will be donating work from each artist to the city at their show, Local Strays. Each artist will present 4-7 brand new items never before seen by the public during the opening. One or more of those works will also reflect the capitol city in both imagery and theme in line with the style and aesthetic Cowtown Lowbrow is known for. Come hungry, the art work will be displayed around tables filled with finger foodies and booze. Then, slip on over to Black Creek for a second opening from the same group and more delectable treats!

Exhibiting artists include:

Dan Gerdeman – Illustrator of toothy, knowing creatures
Joey Monsoon – painter of heads and knuckles
Cyrus Fire – Musically inspired deck decorator
Coreroc – Graffiti artist and DJ
Clinton Reno – Silk screening gig poster maker
Adam Brouillette – Couchfire Collective President and cartoonist
Stephanie Rond – Comical illustrator
Sharon H. Bell - Maker of all things slightly dark, but friendly nonetheless
Skye Darymple – It’s a mystery!
