We almost forgot! A new gallery opens in Cleveland tonight in the second wing of the Pop Shop Gallery. “Deck Wreckers” will be the first of many killer shows to be held in the new space (Art)ificial Gallery, geared towards national and seasoned artists, which compliments Pop Shop’s mission to support emerging artists and brings a new flavor to the East Side arts district.
The Cleveland Art Project states that this hand-picked collection of tasty artwork slathered onto hundreds of layers of wood veneer goodness is the work of over 20 Ohio based artists: fine, children’s book illustrators, graffiti artists, etc. While there is no overall subject matter theme to the show, the common thread is the use of a blank skate deck as a substrate for the artwork. “One of my goals in curating this show, aside from bringing together top talent, is to give the gallery visitor an immersive experience that compels them to want to see the show more then once,” says curator Keith Corcoran.
