The home of Poe had me curious about its nooks and crannies, as I perused photos of the row houses on the West Side. The architecture is Second Empire, the streets grimy and the artist’s edgy. So what if it’s been named in the top ten Most Dangerous Cities in the US, no one said living for inspiration was going to be easy.

The infamous Philadelphia Eddie’s Tattoo parlor, now owned and operated by Troy Timpel. There is no shame in admitting you still need to head North for a great ink job.

Jacki Barry’s illustrations are refreshing, light hearted and whimsically rudimentary. She may not be detail oriented but I’ll be damned if she isn’t having fun.

Matt has been whipping up robots of all kinds at the Artery space, so it seemed fitting to mention Philly native John Schwegel. His demented and adorable monsters, robots and mammals made their way to my desktop after a Google search for owl.

Bryan Howell claims influence from Dr, Suess and Shel Silverstein. We agree that their levity and appropriateness must have rubbed off – Bryan’s designs are well executed and not stylized to much to make us care that they are overtly quirky.
