For eight days now, The Artery crew has been driving up and down the East Coast in search of a new headquarters and I do believe we’ve found our place in Pittsburgh. But now we’re stuck choosing just one neighborhood to live in!

Our first pit stop was the East End in all its graffiti-ed glory where I was treated to a Blackadilla at The Quiet Storm, and served by some of the friendliest barristas I’ve encountered who pointed me in the direction of Little Italy, Tattoo Noir and some cheap apartments in Bloomfield. Artist Christian Breitkreutz lives in the area and I am a fan of fresh baked breads while getting inked.

We made the mistake of falling in love with a colorful living space at Whitney and Center we found online, but I insisted we turn around as soon as we hit Franklin. Off to a plot in South Side we went! Maybe I should have requested a tour guide.

We hit the brakes on the way there to eat (again) at Double Wide Grill. Hurray for BBQ Seitan! We nearly got pinched for a few bucks by an old maid looking to get back to Oakland, but our faux Carolina hillbilly accent threw her for a loop. South Side looked immediately up our alley – dive bars, skate shops and walkability though we were warned it becomes a three ring circus on the weekends, damn kids. We’re currently waiting for a great two bedroom apartment to open up so we can get started tapping into the Pittsburgh underground more-so than we already have. I can already see a mixed use ARTERY store front space, can’t you?
