The rehabbed brick structure in Durham’s South Side is now accepting applications for this year’s residency program. Golden Belt is a newish urban gallery, live-work hub that formally housed a textile mill is on the cutting edge of Southern art. While most galleries are still living in the days of arts & crafts, GB relishes emerging, underground and controversial art produced by local kids who have been long seeking an outlet for their work. The Artery’s own Matt Duquette will be showing there in October to give you a taste of their unconventional exhibits.

This sick opportunity would give one lucky visual artist a rent-free studio to further develop their artistic pursuits. Artist in any stage or his or her artistic development is chosen from the member pool of applicants, but the applicants must have been an active member of Durham Art Guild since August 2008. Not a member yet? Join this year and maybe next year you can have your time in the spotlight. The package includes utilities, parking, wireless internet, and 24 hour access for eleven months valued at $4,675.00. Other benefits include inspiration from any of the other 35 artists working in the same vicinity, and access to restaurants, offices, retail, a live music venue and event space.
