Casey Weldon is an artist currently residing in Brooklyn, by way of Vegas, by way of Long Beach. He is certainly dedicated to his craft – he turns out a new painting, both large and small, at least once a week. I suppose living in three very competitive locales, one must learn to fight for his place. What’s unique about his portraiture, and what I find mildly amusing, is the beauty that radiates from his women/girls, in spite of the awkward situation they fid themselves in.

Weldon seems to have been influenced by the anime movement like so many others, big sad eyes, small features, and perhaps his early work took on more of that style, but its evolved into well honed proportions and eloquent expressions. There’s nice use of muted color and highlights that make those colors really pop. Case incorporates vintage style clothing, hair styles, demeanors and maybe its a smart business move – take a new, fresh style and adapt it for a larger demographic.
