Most one-a-day ventures are boring because they’re notorious for being crafted for the sole purpose of self motivation and accountability. They rarely require anything more than “just post something”, and worse, everyone is doing it. While questioning an upcoming featured artist, he pointed out that he’s surrounded himself with a few of New York’s finest, and anonymous, artists namely comic artist Marcus. Yes, a one-a-dayer.

His odd characters (see the cat above) are the exact quirk you need on your daily reads list to start the day off right. I didn’t get the joke at first because I’m obviously slow, but the awkward feline’s absurd commentary, once realized, reeled me into this Brainless Tales madness. Marcus hand draws the comics everyday, then scans them in and edits them in Photoshop. I think the key to Marcus, is that he realizes that not every post has to be a brainchild. Sure, they’re all intelligently funny, well drawn and completely viral, but through no fault of his own; he doesn’t seem like the type to pine away all day, just trying to think of the next big thing. Maybe his well crafted site is a hint to his lessons learned, that the greatest comic book artists spent all their time drawing, not thinking of what to draw. “Cartoons and games are fun to make, but they also consume a great deal of time in their construction, like building a dam with sticks and beaver tails. I wanted some instant gratification for my pen work, and so Brainless Tales was born in 2007.”
