I’ve been told that I am a sexist woman. When presented with works of art, I’m drawn to masculinity, dominance and showmanship above all else. Ashleigh Fedo is perhaps my polar opposite. She illustrates boundry-less women with dramatic eyes, irreverent expressions and perseverance that’s nearly tangible. “The work is reflective of positive images, music, love, passion, and awareness,” Fedo stated.

So dark and tragic, yet I’m not so drawn to them as I am Ashleigh’s ability to remain steady in style over the years. There’s no mistaking her work for someone else’s, it oozes art school drop out meets macabre. Her characters, female, animal, stitched, are all designed around the idea of revealing weakness, and the visible guidelines reflect that belief. Ashleigh is alive with the creative feminist spirit.

She’s been bold and active in other areas of her career as well, the business end. In early 2007 and still a novice, Ashleigh opened the doors of Joleigh Studio, an independent, private art gallery whose primary motive is to promote other emerging artists. Joleigh is located in Atlanta, a current hot spot for tattoo parlors, renegade craft fairs and b-boys who crave all the attention they can get. See more of Ashleigh’s work here.
